Believe It Or Not...

On April Fools Day, my hubby and I celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary.

We were given a lovely gift card to take to Red Lobster and chow down for a really good lunch by our daughter, Súl. That has been our tradition: to eat out at a nice restaurant on our anniversary. Back at the beginning, we'd go to the local steakhouse - but for the last twelve years or so, it's been to Red Lobster, mostly because that was my mom's favorite place to eat, and my folks were the ones gifting us with the dinner out.

Hubby and I stared at each other, amazed at how quickly the time has flown. All our kids are in their late 20's - Súl actually turns 30 this July! Not fair!

I remember looking at each of them, when they were infants, and finding it hard to wrap my mind around the concept of them being grown up. I had three very good kids - they were typical except that they never got themselves into trouble in any of the many ways kids nowadays can do so. They never did drugs, they never stole or got involved in gangs, they didn't sleep around. They enjoyed being with the family almost as much as being with their friends. And we enjoyed them immensely.

Now we get to reap the benefits of that. I hear from them very regularly by phone - even though Súl and JJ still live at home, they both call to let me know they're on their way home from work. Squeek, up in OR, calls to keep me apprised of his doings up there. I miss him - my one flown-away chick.

Still, hubby and I came home and spent some very good time together discussing the further plans for our in-process renovation of our living and dining rooms. We - and by that, I mean Hubby - are going to take some old bookcases originally built by my grandfather and turn them into virtual built-in cases around an entirely new mantle for the fireplace. The discussion revolved around whether to put glass doors on them - and the idea was nixed. Said bookcases are currently out in the "Man-Cave" (aka. the shop) getting sanded, primed, and ready to install before the painting process.

On the writing front, this past week saw me successfully complete the Back to Middle-earth Month set of prompts, having managed to write something for each and every day of March. I've decided that I'll be posting those bits that don't give away anything that's upcoming in any of my WIPs, starting today. So some of those prompts will get an airing.

Finally, as promised to my friend [livejournal.com profile] engarian, a picture of the coastline. Specifically, this picture is the work of daughter, Súl, who took a vacation and drove up the coast to the Big Sur area south of Carmel. I loved it enough that it was for years the wallpaper on my desktop here. I'm thinking one day I need to either get one of those digital picture frames or get it printed out on giclee or something. Some of these shots are truly magnificent!

Oh yea, have I said lately how I live in Paradise?

Hope that helps soothe the desire for the seacoast, [livejournal.com profile] engarian...
