Life has been pretty good - mostly - on the Real Life™ front.

Miscellaneous yickety-yak under the cut )

And so, with everything, I think I'm sitting on the cusp of life taking a new and interesting turn. All in all, I'm happy with the idea of change too.

The living/dining room renovations are winding down - at long last.

After a couple of wet and drizzly days, the weather has turned far more spring-like. The sky is a crystal blue, with a few "average-sized white clouds" floating around; the breeze is present and not quite chilly, but not overwhelming; and the sun feels downright good on the skin. Things are warm enough that hubby has made great progress on painting the windowsills and doorjambs and doors in the living room - two coats of primer went on yesterday. Today, the first coat of paint went on, and he intends to do another coat this afternoon, once he gets back from taking JJ to Special Olympics practice in SLO.

So.

Here I am, starting all over again, and hoping to find as many of my friends from elsewhere as I possibly can. I had forgotten how lost I was when I first started using LJ; but now I remember it well: few friends, and no idea what to post (other than my stories, of course.)

It's an icky day - cloudy, breezy, and spitting rain half the time. I need to get to work outlining my next chapter of IDD - but my brain and Muse refuse to cooperate. I suppose I could MMO for a while, but I really should work on my writing.

Then again, there's that O-fic project that I'm starting to actively brew and work on. Daughter Súl has been patiently waiting for me to start on it, and my Muse gifted me with dreams the other night that tell me how to start the complete rewrite. Yes, it's a tale that I have approximately 3/5s written (I think it sits somewhere around 60k words so far) that, in order to incorporate the much more complex and (hopefully) exciting plot points, will need to be completely retooled. But it's the piece I'm really hoping to actually sell, so...

Ah well. At least I have a post up now.

Hello?

(It echoes in here - have you noticed?)

On April Fools Day, my hubby and I celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary.

More innane nattering under the cut )

On the writing front, this past week saw me successfully complete the Back to Middle-earth Month set of prompts, having managed to write something for each and every day of March. I've decided that I'll be posting those bits that don't give away anything that's upcoming in any of my WIPs, starting today. So some of those prompts will get an airing.

Finally, as promised to my friend [livejournal.com profile] engarian, a picture of the coastline. Specifically, this picture is the work of daughter, Súl, who took a vacation and drove up the coast to the Big Sur area south of Carmel. I loved it enough that it was for years the wallpaper on my desktop here. I'm thinking one day I need to either get one of those digital picture frames or get it printed out on giclee or something. Some of these shots are truly magnificent!

Oh yea, have I said lately how I live in Paradise?

Hope that helps soothe the desire for the seacoast, [livejournal.com profile] engarian...

What can I say? I'm a California Flake, from the Granola State (everyone who isn't a fruit or a nut is a flake) and proud of it.

Although there were tsunami evacuations in my area (mostly down near the beaches) the tsunami was harmless here. )

All in all, a relatively peaceful week has gone by. I could use a few more of these!! :-D

As the week has progressed, I've slowly started to feel more like myself again. From getting back into the schedule of how things work around here, to seeing friends and acquaintances that I discovered that I really miss when absent from them for a whole two weeks.

I just need to remember, now, that green peas are not my friends - that no matter how much I love them, they will rip me apart within 24 hours. :-p Gonna be scrounge supper tonite, because I'm wiped...

Yes. I'm home. Tired, sore, and determined to stay very quiet for a day or so )

It was an interesting experience.

Not necessarily one I want to repeat in the near future, but worthwhile all the same.

PS: I'd have shared pictures, but LJ was being finicky. Maybe next time.

East-Coast and Little Siberia folks may not want to read the following paragraphs...

Trust me, if your weather has been lousy lately, you do NOT want to read under the cut.

I refuse to be responsible for any dishes broken, desks torn up and trashed, or blue smoke from the ears to result from those ignoring the warning. :-D

Is the year going to continue in this fashion? Will things ever even out so that we can take a breath and not worry about where the next one is coming from?

I guess we'll just have to see. :-p

It's already the second day of January, 2011! How time flies!

Summation of 2010 under the cut )

I'll close with some sane and thoughtful New Year's resolutions I posted under the cut last year, but I think I'll leave out in the open this year. As stated before, I believe these came from Dear Abby:

Just for today: I will live through this day only. I will not brood about yesterday or obsess about tomorrow. I will not set far-reaching goals or try to overcome all of my problems at once.

Just for today: I will be happy. I will not dwell on thoughts that depress me. If my mind fills with clouds, I will chase then away and fill it with sunshine.

Just for today: I will accept what is. I will face reality. I will correct those things that I can correct, and accept those I cannot.

Just for today: I will improve my mind. I will read something that requires effort, thought, and concentration. I will not be a mental loafer.

Just for today: I will make a conscious effort to be agreeable. I will be kind and courteous to those who cross my path, and I'll not speak ill of others. I will improve my appearance, speak softly, and not interrupt when someone else is talking.

Just for today: I will refrain from improving anybody but myself.

Just for today: I will do something positive to improve my health. If I'm a smoker, I'll quit. If I am overweight, I will eat healthfully - if only just for today. And not only that, I will get off the couch and take a brisk walk, even if it's only around the block.

Just for today: I will gather the courage to do what is right and take responsibility for my own actions.

Happy New Years, everyone!

My son up in Oregon can't come home. *cries*

Miscellaneous natterings under the cut )

On a final note, I took the following picture last night of the poinsettia just outside my back door. The silly thing, if the canes were standing upright rather than drooping with the weight of the blossoms, would be seven or eight feet tall. This picture was taken of blossoms right at about eye level. This is my MidWinter/Solstice/Christmas/Hannukkah/Kwanza/New Year's gift to all my friends in here. May the Universe look kindly upon you all, and grant you a better year to come.

Until next time...

...so I guess it must be winter, right?

The roofs of the houses around ours have been frosty, I'm told, early in the morning when my daughter Súl goes for her jog - when she doesn't cop out and drive to the gym to jog on a treadmill, that is.

Speaking of exercise, I've had to stop my morning walks for the next week or so. Seems that whatever I did to my knee six years ago, when I fell with all my (not inconsiderable) weight on my right knee onto the cement of my brother's driveway apron is now rearing its ugly head again. I can barely walk, and getting up out of a chair is agony. Gonna stay off of it as much as possible and pray that when the weather clears, I'll be able to do a very short walk.

Son Squeek, the one in Oregon, is getting his first taste of living in snow country. :-D Pardon me while I snicker. He tells me, "I love the snow, but they can keep the cold!!" I remind him, "Um... I think you can't have one without the other." His response: "I don't care. The cold sux, but the snow is neat, Mom." Suuuuuuuure it is, honey. Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure it is. I'm waiting for him to turn into that old joke where someone moves to snow country and starts keeping a journal - first entry is "It snowed last night, and it's beautiful out this morning" and the last entry is "Oh damn. More of the white shit fell last night..."

It's pouring as I type this! A squall line must be passing through - my downspouts can't deal with the water and I've got a waterfall coming off the corner of the roof here! I think I'll hug my nice, hot cuppa herbal tea and be grateful for the little space heater under my desk.

Hope everybody here in LJ-land had a Happy Thanksgiving who celebrated it, and that those who didn't have a holiday are having a wonderful weekend.
