Aearwen's Little Bits - Lost and Found
Jan. 30th, 2010 10:54 amAnother week of writing on things that won't appear in here for a while...
I finished a new short story to be entered in one of the monthly challenge contests; I finished a chapter each in "I Dhaerlend Dadui: Avathar" and "Strange Melodies" - submitting IDD to the Lizard Council and having received requisite nit-picking and concrit, which I will be doing to SM as soon as I impliment the revisions in IDD; edited the 3 parts of an O-fic novel temporarily entitled "Phoenix" so that my daughter could read/concrit/beta them and then maybe brainstorm with me to get that one completed.
So my Muse is active; trust me. I just have promised myself that I won't post anymore stories until they are completed and through the concrit/beta process. The only exception to that is "In The House of Elrond" - and I just finished a three-part chapter for that one too a week or so ago. I also have 2/3s of a new chapter for "Changeling" (the sequel to "Light Fingers" and "Elladaniel") and about 3/4s of a new episode/story in the Thranduil & Elara saga entitled "The Elvenking's Lady". On the latter, I'm having to think hard about just how explicit I intend to get while writing the events of that story.
Also, FanFiction is being a pain today, for a change: it won't accept any uploads. So I'm waving to my FFN fans who have been directed to read updates here when they don't show up there on time. The short story I would have uploaded there today was put up in here a very long time ago. (And if I knew how to do links properly, I'd send you to it from this; but since I don't...) As soon as FFN gets their collective tuki (plural of tukus) in gear, "Settling Old Scores" will be there too.
Anyhoo, all this preamble for a 100-word drabble. Hope you enjoy it.

Aearwen's Little Bits - Are We There Yet?
Jan. 23rd, 2010 12:52 pmThis has been a wild, wet week!
California - or at least my little part of it - has been enduring one of our "Hundred Year Storms". As today is the first day that is relatively clear (you mean to tell me that Unidentified Flying Object is call the Sun??) I will have to go out and empty the rain gauge. It stopped registering on Wednesday - and Eru only knows how much fell Thursday and Friday. We were without power from noon to after 9PM on Monday, thanks to a pine tree falling in the high winds and taking out a power pole down the street.
We get two days of sunshine, and then it's back to rain again. *le sigh*
And in the spirit of the weather, I offer the following:

Aearwen's Little Bits - Awakening
Jan. 9th, 2010 12:15 pmOne of the really fun things about writing all these drabbles is the number and variety of characters who suddenly found voices. This is another from a perspective not often heard from, and as I selected this, a plot bunny hopped out of the woodwork and looked up at me with these sad, soleful eyes. I immediately gave it a carrot, brushed the dust and ash out of its fur, and gave it a home in the hutch with the others. Who knows what I'll do with it one of these days...
Without further ado...

This is one of my more recent drabbles. Don't ask me where it came from, because I suddenly just saw the scene in my mind.

Aearwen's Little Bits - Forgotten
Nov. 28th, 2009 12:11 pmThis happens to be THE very first drabble I ever wrote, way over a year ago. I'm surprised I haven't taken the opportunity to post it before, to be honest. Enjoy.

It has come to my attention that this double-drabble highlights one of the most memorable scenes from Peter Jackson's "Return of the King" movie. I have to agree. The cinematography, the grandeur of the scenery used, and the idea of what was happening during those moments that needed no dialogue or narration was one of the most powerful and enduring moments in the entire trilogy. I do believe that Tolkien would have approved of the way that was portrayed.
I do hope, then, that you enjoy this:

Aearwen's Little Bits - Alone
Nov. 14th, 2009 01:32 pmYou know, what happens after Aragorn steps beyond the circles of the world - especially to his son - is a vast and unexplored territory in Tolkien's legendarium. This drabble explores the very beginnings of that wilderness.

Aearwen's Little Bits - Rainy Day
Oct. 31st, 2009 11:40 amYes, I know a Halloween entry should be at the very least spooky, if not downright scary. Sorry. This one is merely a little thoughtful. Still, I hope you enjoy it.

Aearwen's Little Bits - Second Thoughts
Oct. 17th, 2009 11:47 amLast but not least, I bring you the double-drabble that was the seed for what has turned into an epic - or at least I think it will end up being an epic. The larger work is called "I Dhaerlend Dadui", which means "The Second Great Journey" in Sindarin. I think those of you who have been watching IDD slowly come to life in the Lizard Council will understand how this double-drabble was merely feeding a voracious, rabid and intractible plot bunny who has yet to let go of my ankle.
And so, for
pandemonium213, because I promised her she could see this today:

( Second Thoughts )
I was re-reading last week's drabble offering, "Screams", when this itty-bitty plot bunny with four inch fangs walked up to me and sank its teeth into my ankle.

Today's offering in this work is a double-drabble, meaning that it is exactly 200 words. I continue to come up with new drabbles, although not one every morning. That's just as well - it was a very difficult discipline that I set myself when I decided to drabble my way to my Limpet Award back when. Luckily, the new ones are just as varied as to character and situation as my previous ones have been.
But today's offering is from the first set. Enjoy!

Aearwen's Little Bits - Foreboding
Sep. 12th, 2009 10:38 amI have this habit of crawling into the heads of characters that others find... less than comfortable. I did this before in a different fandom altogether (and lemme tell ya, actually starting to understand the thoughts and motivations of a cannibalistic serial killer/rapist was not a comfortable thing to do!!!) I am currently working on a novel-length piece for the LotR fandom involving a character who is very rarely if ever portrayed in fanfic - and never in anything remotely resembling a favorable light.
All of this by way of introducing of the the drabbles that tackles one of Tolkien's "Bad Guys" ™:
( Foreboding )
And, for whatever it's worth, I'm drabbling again. I'm very pleased to announce that since my last posting date roughly a week ago, I have written a total of five drabbles. I'm not gonna force myself to drabble each and every day, like I did in an effort to win that dubious "Limpet" award at GoI; but it does feel good to be getting back into the habit.
I told you all I would.
This means, of course, that I'll just have that many more drabbles to post for you. Lucky you!
