Ok, ok. I'll do it too - just because it is very interesting to see the patterns that others are seeing in their own work.
The first thing she could sense was Intent, and slow growth of understanding as to what was to come. (Along Came A Spider - unpublished WIP)
Mirien threw a second handful of dried beans into the pot of boiling water listlessly and then looked around the small hut. (Return)
"I should have known I would find you in a place like this." (Prodigal)
The sound of a harp accompanied the crash of the waves, and Jeri smiled in comfortable memory. (Strange Melodies - unpublished WIP)
“I’m certain that you won’t regret your purchase, my Lord,” the wine vender smiled cheerfully. (And The Elvish Word For Trouble Is… - unpublished WIP)
Another beautiful evening in Paradise - as if there could be any other kind, Elladan thought cynically. (I Dhaerlend Dadui - unpublished WIP)
Meg shifted in her saddle and rubbed her eyes. (In The Hidden Valley - unpublished WIP)
"By the Belain, I have missed you," Thranduil exclaimed as they walked down the corridor towards his apartment, his free hand covering hers and pinning it firmly to his arm. (Reunion - unpublished WIP)
Gilraen opened her eyes to a friendly morning sun. (In The House of Elrond - a WIP)
"But why, Da?" Ivoreth asked plaintively. (Surviving)
The day was beautiful: a gentle breeze from the mountains kept it from being oppressively hot, the grass was tall and swaying in the breezes like green waves upon an inland sea, the sky overhead was a brilliant blue with floating puffs of clouds. (The Fork in the Road)
It was hard to imagine this as a city where once Men had dwelled. (Solving Old Mysteries)
Ivoreth groaned as her Ada carefully set her back on the ground, and she clung to his hands for the long moment it took to make certain she wasn’t going to collapse in a heap like she had the first two days. (Elladaniel)
Cherina's face had crumpled in pain and concentration as she struggled to push the babe from her. (WorldShip - unpublished original WIP)
It is taught that in the Very Beginning, there was nothing but the One; and the One was alone. (Sleeper Cycle - Book One: Awakening - unpublished original WIP)
"This is all your fault, you know." Aragorn found the stunned outrage with which Halbarad stared back at him from halfway down the slope immensely satisfying, considering everything. (First Impressions)
Gimli stroked his beard, smoothing some of its bristling length back in where it had pulled slightly from its tethering belt at his waist. (Settling Old Scores - unpublished)
Meresel watched Erestor leap and spin in the air, his sword moving faster than even Elven eye could follow, and she gave a heartfelt sigh of appreciation and longing. (Taking Chances - unpublished)
The day dawned brisk and clear, a beautiful late autumn day. (Phoenix - unpublished original WIP)
"Good evening, Elara." (Leave Me Not)
Patterns I see:
1. Six of them open with quotes.
2. In seven, the very first word is a character name.
3. Four begin with a comment on the weather.
