Shamelessly stolen from
nierielraina:
The character I first fell in love with: Elrond. That is just one cool Elf! He rules over one of the most breathtakingly peaceful places in the whole land, and keeps his doors open to all who seek his refuge. Loremaster, Master Healer, High King with no crown, he is absolutely awesome!
The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Hands down: Thranduil. He's not given much play time, neither in the Hobbit and even less in LotR, but he is a striking individual in that he stands strong against having Sauron literally in his backyard, and does it through the power of his will, his stubbornness, and his wisdom. Not only does he outlast the Enemy, but apparently outlasts most of the other Elves in Ennor.
The character everyone else loves that I don't: Frodo. I get tired of hearing about how noble and damaged he is. Yes, yes, he saves the day for everybody when he manages to get the Ring close enough to Mt. Doom that Gollum can finish the job. But, ya know... *shrug*
The character I love that everyone else hates: Ungoliant. This was a character that I honestly didn't expect to like, and have developed an understanding for.
The character I'd want to be like: Erestor. He gets to work in the biggest, bestest library in all the land, is an extraordinary teacher, one of Elrond's advisors (which means he's plenty wise). And I like a dry sense of humor - and that's what I see him having.
The character I'd slap: Can I slap more than one?
1. Fëanor. Spoiled brat! Causing all that ruckus over jewelry! I mean! *huff!*
2. Manwë. All of the Valar, really. Just who do they think they are, removing the Elves from Middle-earth, and then cursing those who have the audacity to want to go back? For all their power, they are much less than wise.
3. Tom Bombadil. A useless waste of printer's ink.
Favorite LotR movie adaptation: The depiction of Rivendell. Absolutely stunning!
Least favorite LotR movie adaptation: The battle for Helm's Deep. I hate that PJ killed off Haldir.
Favorite unsolved Tolkien mystery: Can I have more than one??
1. The fates of the sons of Elrond and Celeborn. Did they ever sail, or did they remain in Ennor? Should I be looking around and seeing if I can find a spectacularly handsome guy with pointed ears?
2. The fates of the other Istari. What happened to the Blue Wizards, and what happened to Radagast?
Least favorite unsolved Tolkien mystery: Just how many millenia separate Middle-earth with Our Modern Times.
Five favorite characters: 1. Elrond (already explained) 2. Thranduil (ditto) 3. Maglor (he's a fellow musician, and I have a soft spot for what he ended up going through.) 4. Gilraen (she's such a cardboard cutout placeholder, as Tolkien presented her, but think: she raised a child in Imladris surrounded by five alpha-male Elven Lords. She had to have something on the ball or they would have eaten her for lunch!) 5. Celeborn (quiet, lordly, incredibly wise, what's not to like [except his wife?])
Five least favorite characters: 1. Tom Bombadil (see above) 2. Fëanor (see above) 3. Finwë (for playing favorites with his kids and being 3/4s of what was wrong with Fëanor) 4. Manwë (for not using common sense when dealing with the Firstborn) and 5. Melkor/Morgoth (for being such a greedy, power-hungry poopie-head.)
Which character I am most like: Frodo, believe it or not. (I'm short, round, think about food a lot, and love to study things Elvish.)
My deep, dark fandom secret: My deep, dark fandom secret is that I haven't got one. Sorry, folks; what you see is what you get. What might not be well-known, however, is that Aeärwen is my second authorID. For years, I wrote for The Pretender fandom as MMB.
