Of course, north of us, in Crescent City, nearly three dozen boats were damaged or destroyed, as well as most of the harbor. So even though this is the second time in the last year that we've been under warnings only to have them prove baseless, I'm certain I'm with the majority that believe that it's better to have the warnings and evacuations and not need them than to need them desperately and not have them there.

My heart goes out to everyone in Japan affected by the quake and tsunami, as well as everyone who knows anybody there who might have been affected. I wrote an email to an old pen-pal of mine from days gone by - only to discover the email address no longer valid. I'll have to try to get a message to her the old-fashioned way: airmail. My, how life has changed in the last twenty years!!

I'm sitting here, looking out at what's left of my wisteria vine valiantly starting to bloom its little heart out. Hubby chopped it back rather ruthlessly, but didn't take it out completely, as he had intended, so I guess I get one more year with the purple flowers to tell me that Springtime is just around the corner. My lilacs are leafed out already, but I don't think we got any blossoms this year. Hopefully that will change next year, as we removed the jade trees that were crowding them out. I expect to see new, translucent green buds on my grape vines anyday now.

The weather is actually shirt-sleeves warm out today - as long as one isn't where the fog has come back in from the ocean and blocked the almost warm sun from shining. There's a breeze that will chill if not in the sunshine. But all in all, the day is gorgeous. The sky, where not covered in fog, is crystal clear blue. I can hear my Hubby grumping "Just look at all that grass growing!" after the last lot of rain.

My only gripe is that I'm going to have to call the gas company to come out and see if they can discover why my daughter's carbon monoxide alarm keeps going off. Nobody in the house can smell any natural gas leaks near stoves or heaters, but that darned alarm refuses to shut up. It could be coming from all the hydrocarbons being used by Hubby to rejuvenate the living room walls (just outside the apartment door) - and I truly hope that's what it turns out to be. I don't relish having to pay someone to creep around in the crawlspace under our house checking out the ancient gas fittings and piping!!

My Muse is talking to me - I have about 3/5s of the next chapter of IDD down in first draft, and now she decides she wants to play with some of the B2MEM prompts. I'll start posting those in here sometime next week, methinks. Wanna run them past the Lizards and the Hall of Fire denizens first.

All in all, a relatively peaceful week has gone by. I could use a few more of these!! :-D
