Progress, of sorts...
Apr. 9th, 2011 12:56 pmAfter a couple of wet and drizzly days, the weather has turned far more spring-like. The sky is a crystal blue, with a few "average-sized white clouds" floating around; the breeze is present and not quite chilly, but not overwhelming; and the sun feels downright good on the skin. Things are warm enough that hubby has made great progress on painting the windowsills and doorjambs and doors in the living room - two coats of primer went on yesterday. Today, the first coat of paint went on, and he intends to do another coat this afternoon, once he gets back from taking JJ to Special Olympics practice in SLO.

Ya gotta start somewhere
Apr. 7th, 2011 01:30 pmSo.
Here I am, starting all over again, and hoping to find as many of my friends from elsewhere as I possibly can. I had forgotten how lost I was when I first started using LJ; but now I remember it well: few friends, and no idea what to post (other than my stories, of course.)
It's an icky day - cloudy, breezy, and spitting rain half the time. I need to get to work outlining my next chapter of IDD - but my brain and Muse refuse to cooperate. I suppose I could MMO for a while, but I really should work on my writing.
Then again, there's that O-fic project that I'm starting to actively brew and work on. Daughter Súl has been patiently waiting for me to start on it, and my Muse gifted me with dreams the other night that tell me how to start the complete rewrite. Yes, it's a tale that I have approximately 3/5s written (I think it sits somewhere around 60k words so far) that, in order to incorporate the much more complex and (hopefully) exciting plot points, will need to be completely retooled. But it's the piece I'm really hoping to actually sell, so...
Ah well. At least I have a post up now.
Hello?
(It echoes in here - have you noticed?)

Second Draft
Apr. 2nd, 2011 01:51 pmThe first of the B2MEM pieces to get aired will be another sequel to "In The House of Elrond". The moment I saw this prompt, I knew exactly what I was going to write; all I had to do was wait for my Muse to give me the proper framework for it.
Without further ado:

Believe It Or Not...
Apr. 2nd, 2011 01:37 pmOn April Fools Day, my hubby and I celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary.
( More innane nattering under the cut )
On the writing front, this past week saw me successfully complete the Back to Middle-earth Month set of prompts, having managed to write something for each and every day of March. I've decided that I'll be posting those bits that don't give away anything that's upcoming in any of my WIPs, starting today. So some of those prompts will get an airing.
Finally, as promised to my friend
engarian, a picture of the coastline. Specifically, this picture is the work of daughter, Súl, who took a vacation and drove up the coast to the Big Sur area south of Carmel. I loved it enough that it was for years the wallpaper on my desktop here. I'm thinking one day I need to either get one of those digital picture frames or get it printed out on giclee or something. Some of these shots are truly magnificent!
Oh yea, have I said lately how I live in Paradise?
( Pic-spam under the cut )
Hope that helps soothe the desire for the seacoast,
engarian...

Not Always a Good Idea....
Mar. 21st, 2011 12:10 pmI see on FaceBook that it is Atheist Awareness Week, an attempt to show people that those who eschew religion are (1) more numerous; and (2) less demonic than otherwise stereotyped. I then read an interesting post in LJ about it here.
I don't often discuss this kind of thing openly, but for those who are interested...
( My response to 'Atheist Awareness Week' )
Everybody else's mileage may vary.

Aearwen's Little Bits - Reflections
Mar. 19th, 2011 05:30 pmOK, so maybe I need to post just a little bit of angst today. Drabbles tend to lend themselves to that so well...

Thranduil's Dilemma
Mar. 19th, 2011 05:21 pmTo quote Monty Python's Flying Circus: "And now for something completely different..."
I've been posting some pretty angsty stuff here of late, and so I thought I'd bring this out to show that I'm not always into making my readers sniff as they read. This week, I'm aiming for outright guffaws.
But, there's a story behind this story.
When I was in the process of working toward my Stubborn Limpet award in GoI (posting a minimum of 100 original, new words every consecutive day for 100 days) by writing drabbles, one of the bits I posted about Thranduil sparked a very interesting conversation among the members. It tickled my funnybone so that I wrote a crack!fic to allow Thranduil to "answer" the ladies in question. The comebacks I got from that inspired yet another crack!fic less than a day later.
In going through my hard drive not long ago, I found that set of crack!fics, and I've smoothed out some of the rougher edges to make it suitable for public airing.
And so, without further ado...

Goes to show...
Mar. 19th, 2011 05:06 pm( I wasn't paying attention as much as I thought I was when I ordered last from Amazon. )
What can I say? I'm a California Flake, from the Granola State (everyone who isn't a fruit or a nut is a flake) and proud of it.

No, I did not get washed away...
Mar. 12th, 2011 04:16 pm( Although there were tsunami evacuations in my area (mostly down near the beaches) the tsunami was harmless here. )
All in all, a relatively peaceful week has gone by. I could use a few more of these!! :-D

Aearwen's Little Bits - Transformation
Mar. 5th, 2011 06:11 pmOne of the topics rarely touched on is the fate of the land of Orodruin after the fall of Sauron. While working on my Stubborn Limpet, this possible future came to me:

In The House of Elrond XVIII - Epilogue
Mar. 5th, 2011 06:09 pmWe've come to the end of another tale. I hope you all have enjoyed this story as much as I did to write it. I can promise you that elements of this tale, as well as elements and characters from "Light Fingers" and "Elladaniel", will be making further appearances in future works, such as "I Dhaerlend Dadui" and "Changeling".
But for now...

Getting Along
Mar. 5th, 2011 06:04 pmAs the week has progressed, I've slowly started to feel more like myself again. From getting back into the schedule of how things work around here, to seeing friends and acquaintances that I discovered that I really miss when absent from them for a whole two weeks.
( More nattering and inconsequential mutterings under the cut )
I just need to remember, now, that green peas are not my friends - that no matter how much I love them, they will rip me apart within 24 hours. :-p Gonna be scrounge supper tonite, because I'm wiped...

Final Update
Feb. 26th, 2011 04:47 pmWell, I've been home a whole two days now...
( General whining and complaining under the cut - disregard unless you're a glutton for punishment )
Hopefully, tomorrow will see me starting to be my old self again. I'm sick & tired of being run down, mentally and physically. I need to worry about my son, who still hasn't found a permanent place to live up there in OR.
I think I just visited those "Interesting Times" that are essential to the Chinese curse. I'm ready to go back to my dull, uninteresting existence, as "interesting" certainly isn't all it's cracked up to be!

Feb. 24th, 2011 08:06 pm( Yes. I'm home. Tired, sore, and determined to stay very quiet for a day or so )
It was an interesting experience.
Not necessarily one I want to repeat in the near future, but worthwhile all the same.
PS: I'd have shared pictures, but LJ was being finicky. Maybe next time.
